Wade Shows Midway to Feature Two of the Three Largest Traveling Roller Coasters in America
For the first time, the Great New York State Fair will offer a free Midway ride to its patrons. The Observation Tower, which offers riders a gentle, rotating rise to its full, seven story height, will be free of charge in the New York Experience festival grounds. The Fair is leasing the ride from its carnival provider, Wade Shows, to give fairgoers a spectacular view of the fully-renovated Fairgrounds, including the brand-new Expo Center. Wade Shows employees will staff and operate the ride.
“We’ve undergone tremendous change in the last few years and I felt the time was right to give our fans a chance to see it all, from a bird’s eye view. The Observation Tower is a ride nearly everyone in the family can take, and the view should be amazing. It’s also a great way to bring more people to our scenic festival grounds on the western end of the Fair,” said Acting Fair Director Troy Waffner.
The 62 rides on the Wade Shows Midway include two of the three largest traveling roller coasters in America. The RC-48 returns for fairgoers in search of the greatest possible thrill and is joined by the Mighty Mouse Coaster, which features cars that spin as they go over hills and around tight curves. Two large Ferris wheels, the 90-foot Giant Wheel and the 70-foot Patriot Wheel, promise high-angle views of the Midway. Sixteen rides make up Wade’s Kiddieland, with the rides lining the walkway that leads to the brand new Exposition Center. The Midway also features several dozen food vendors and games booths.
The Fair’s advance sale program at its online sales site on etix.com features discounts on vouchers that allow a fairgoer to ride all day for one price. The vouchers cost $20 for weekday use and $25 for weekend use. Each is a $5 discount off prices during the Fair. Also on sale is a $70 voucher that allows a fairgoer to ride all day every day of the Fair. Vouchers are redeemed at the Wade Shows Customer Service booth on the Midway.
Wade Shows will offer two special promotions during the Fair. Midway Monday, on Monday, August 27, offers wristbands for $10 that is good for 10 rides. On Labor Day, every ride on the Midway is available for $1 per ride, joining the Fair’s Dollar Day $1 admission promotion.
Wristbands are not recommended for children under 36" as there are very few rides they can ride safely. Parents with children under 48" should check the height requirements before purchasing to make informed decisions about whether wristbands are the best value for their children. Height requirements for individual rides can be found on the Wade Shows website.
The Broadway Skyliner ride is sold separately and is not available on ride-all-day wristbands.
