The New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets, Division of the State Fair, is now seeking individuals who are interested in temporary superintendent positions listed below for this year's annual New York State Fair, August 24 – September 5, 2022.

Talent Showcase Superintendent

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

To perform the job successfully, an individual must show an interest in working with the various New York County Fair talent showcases.  A successful candidate must have a general knowledge of a talent showcase operation and general operation of the New York State Fair.

The responsibilities listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required.

  • Act as the liaison between the various exhibitors in the Talent Showcase and the New York State Fair and the New York State Fair Management.
  • Responsible for seeing that the stage is presentable prior to the opening of the Fair each day as well during the day.
  • Work closely with audio crew to ensure all sound and light equipment is working properly.
  • Monitor all exhibitors to insure they comply with all rules and regulations.  Handle and resolve problems, which may arise.
  • Schedule all acts for judging.
  • Provide Entry Department with all necessary information for payment of winning acts.
  • Monitor all safety requirements.
  • Handle all emergency situations and submit reports on all incidents as soon as possible to the Agriculture Manager.
  • Provide general assistance to the public.
  • Distribute all necessary credentials to the participating acts.
  • Attend regular meetings of the New York State Fair Superintendent staff, with follow up meeting as necessary.
  • Comply with all yearly deadlines regarding submitting premium book addition and corrections, general supplies, equipment needs and signage.
  • Keep abreast of any trends of the talent industry in New York State that would indicate classes to be added or deleted from the Talent Showcase venue.
  • Compile all suggestions and summarize suggestions, complaints etc. and hand into the Agriculture Manager at the end of each Fair.

Demonstration Kitchen Superintendent

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Act as the liaison between the chiefs and demonstrators in the Demo Kitchen and the New York State Fair and the New York State Fair Management.
  • Responsible for seeing that the Demo Kitchen is presentable prior to the opening of the Fair each day.
  • Schedule all demo kitchen demonstrations (5 per day).
  • Work closely with audio crew to ensure all sound and light equipment is working properly.
  • Keep abreast of any trends of the cooking industry in New York State, keep as much local as possible.
  • Coordinate food demonstrations with special days of Fair (ie: utilizing a dairy product on Dairy Day).
  • Monitor all demonstrators to insure they comply with all rules and regulations.  Handle and resolve problems, which may arise.
  • Monitor all safety requirements.
  • Handle all emergency situations and submit reports on all incidents as soon as possible to the Agriculture Manager.
  • Provide general assistance to the public.

Arts & Crafts Superintendent

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Located in the Art & Home Center, the Arts and Crafts Superintendent will oversee all the arts and crafts entries, starting in early August, with deliveries to the Fairgrounds. The Superintendent will organize and judge entries and set up the winning entries for display before he Fair starts. They will also coordinate the return of entries to exhibitors after the Fair.
