The Great New York State Fair, a division of the New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets, is actively seeking candidates for summer and New York State Fair employment.
Full summer employment opportunities are available in several departments, including Events, Maintenance and Trades. There are also openings in administrative roles, and internship types of positions available – designed for individuals interested in Events, Communications, and Sponsorship-related fields. Those opportunities are classified as Student Assistants. For all of the positions outlined above, employment begins as soon as qualified candidates are determined, and will continue through Labor Day, September 4.
In addition, The Fair is hiring for hundreds of positions to help staff 13-days of The Great New York State Fair, which begins Wednesday, August 23 and continues through Labor Day, Monday, September 4. Right now, talent is most needed in the areas of Guest Relations, Security, Safety and Transportation (Tram Conductors). The Fair is also looking to hire Superintendents for the Talent Showcase youth talent show located at the Talent Showcase Stage, as well as Pan African Village. Brief descriptions of all open roles are provided in the application, linked here on the Fair’s website. Please note, while the positions are designed for the 13-day run of the Fair, work hours, rate of pay, and duration of employment varies per assignment, and certain positions may be needed before the Fair begins.
“We’ve all heard the adage that ‘many hands make light work.’ We are so grateful every year to have about 1,600 community members step up to help our team throw one of the biggest, most fun events in New York State,” said interim Fair Director Sean Hennessey. “From staffing the Great Potato Booth, to answering visitors’ questions in Guest Relations, to leading programming in key Superintendent roles like what we have available in Pan African Village and Talent Showcase, to Security and Tram Driver roles… There’s no way it would all come together without any one of these roles. If you’re interested in working for The Fair, we have a job for you!”
Candidates interested in any of the open positions–for full summer employment and Fair staffing—are encouraged to complete an online application, accessible by clicking here. Should prospective applicants have any questions, they should reach out to Human Resources via email at recruitment@agriculture.ny.gov.
In addition, separate from employment through The Fair and the New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets, there are additional opportunities available for those interested in Grounds and Restroom Cleaning through the Green Event Ninjas and the KleenTeem. Positions are available for a variety of roles in shifts including daytime, evening, and overnight. In this area, employment dates run from August 19 through September 8, 2023. Parking jobs, when they become available, will also be provided at this link.
