New Owners Receive a Free Dog Collar Featuring the New York State Fair Logo

More than two dozen dogs and cats looking for their new forever home will be at the Great New York State Fair on Sunday, August 26 as part of the Fair’s first-ever “Adopt A Pet Day.”  The brand-new event runs from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Chevy Court Pavilion.

The Wayne County Animal Shelter, Oswego County SPCA, and the Mohawk Hudson Humane Society are hosting the event.  They will bring an estimated 30 animals to the Fair, all of which were born in New York. Fairgoers who adopt a pet will also receive a free New York State Fair dog collar.

Acting Fair Director Troy Waffner said, “There are so many animals at shelters across the State that are looking for a loving home so we are proud to have a small part in helping to make those connections.  Adopt a Pet Day is new to the Fair, and I encourage all fairgoers to stop by Chevy Court and consider taking a pet home.”

Libby Post, Executive Director of NYS Animal Protection Federation, said, “The animal shelter community is thrilled to participate with the New York State Fair for this event. We see this as a great step for the future of our programs.”

Fairgoers can adopt their new pet at any time throughout the day, but must pick up their pet by 3 p.m. After picking up their new pet, fairgoers must go home immediately. Anyone interested in adopting a pet should be aware that each shelter has its own vetting process.

Fairgoers can also help support pet adoptions by making a donation or purchasing a t-shirt.  T-shirts will be on sale during adoption hours.
