Tuesday, August 30th is Beef Day and "Beef, it's What's for Dinner"! Follow your nose to the Chevy Court pavilion to watch as local media personalities try their hand at becoming the "Branding Iron Chef" in the "Branding Iron Cook-off" media grilling contest beginning at 10:00am. At 12:30pm New York State FFA Chapters will take over as they compete in the 10th Annual “Create the Perfect Burger” contest sponsored by the New York Beef Council and Tops Markets. Eleven NYS FFA Chapters will grill head to head as a panel of judges will determine who will take home the title for not only the “Perfect Burger” but $875 worth of prizes for their school chapter! After the competitions, plan a trip to the Beef Barn where a host of fun, interactive activities will entertain and educate you about beef from farm to fork! (i.e. scavenger hunts, beef cut puzzle and beef personality quizzes).
Monday, August 29th is Dairy Day - This is the State Fair's way of saying thank you to all the dairy farmers, dairy product processors and manufacturers who provide us with the state's official beverage, "Milk" and official Snack “Yogurt!” Come enjoy the day's fun activities from the local celebrity milkshake contest and then the Big cheese auction at the Chevy Court Pavilion starting at 10am. Then join us for the e morning to the day long Open Class Holstein Show in the Toyota Coliseum followed by the Dairy Day parade at 6pm. Be sure to stop by the Dairy Product Building and visit with State Dairy Princesses, enjoy a cup of cold white or chocolate milk and get a picture of the famous butter sculpture.
Dairy Cow Birthing Center
Returning this year is an opportunity for fairgoers to witness first-hand the miracle of life daily by watching a dairy cow give birth to a calf. The New York Animal Agriculture Coalition is providing this opportunity for the public to learn more about the dairy industry, the care farmers provide their animals, as well as the birthing process. The exhibits new location is at the end of the midway, across from the sheep barn. View a 24-7 live webcam of the Dairy Cow Birthing Center.
Taste NY Wine & Cheese Seminars
Take a break from the crowds in air-conditioned comfort where you can get a chance to talk to representatives from a variety of New York wineries. Listen while they discuss the differences between white grapes and red grapes. Find out what are the best wines to be served with certain entrees. Sample different varieties and learn the best ways to enjoy the full nuances of wine. There will be demonstrations on making homemade wine as well as homemade brew. Be sure to check our daily schedules posted in early August for more details. Held in the Horticulture Building daily at 2:30pm and 5:30pm with limited space availability.

World of Horses
Inside this tent, near the Toyota Coliseum, you can get ‘up close’ to horses representing different breeds and uses. You’ll learn about these majestic animals through daily presentations ranging from ‘Meet the Horses’ to ‘Horse Care and Handling’ and even ‘Recap of the Horses and Riders at the 2016 Olympics’. Hands on interaction, opportunities to play games and win prizes, photo opportunities with a full size ‘Olympic level’ show jump, and meeting with industry representatives to learn more the fascinating world of horses that generates over $2 Billion to the state’s annual economy, are all part of this FREE exhibit! Exhibit hours: 10:00am-8:00pm (horses available until 7:00pm).
NYS Veterinary Medical Society’s
Hall of Veterinary Health
The NYS Veterinary Medical Society’s Hall of Veterinary Health, located at the east end of the horse barn (near Gate 4), showcases veterinary medicine to the public.
Visit interactive displays on dentistry, nutrition, vaccines, parasites, digital x-rays and rehab! See the teddy bear ER and dress up like a veterinarian to get a feel for the surgical experience. Learn about comparative anatomy with 7 different animal skulls.
For the first time, a stuffed animal giveaway is planned to all children (while supplies last) who attend the Hall Saturday, August 27, Sunday, August 28, Saturday, September 3 and Sunday, September 4. You will take your animal through each exhibit and learn how to care for your new pet. Upon exiting, you will be given instructions to print, from the NYSVMS website, an adoption certificate. Cornell veterinary students will also guide you through a “build your own stethoscope” activity on those weekends.
There is a live presenter every day of the Fair at 12, 2 PM and 4 PM featuring live animals including dogs, hawks, falcons, owls, Shetland ponies, and all kinds of reptiles! There is also a veterinary first aid demonstration every day at 3 PM.

New York State Fair History Exhibit
Take a walk through this exhibit and view pictures and memorabilia from past fairs and see for yourself how the Fair has changed and grown over the past 175 years. Watch a short video clip of the 1969 State Fair and see clay models of the butter sculpture going back to 2004. Look over a scale model of the whole fairgrounds and follow time lines of important events, entertainment and agriculture that have been part of the New York State Fair. Don’t miss the exhibits on the 4-H, FFA, Iroquois Indian Village and the NY State Troopers to name a few.
You will also have an opportunity to purchase limited edition collectable Christmas tree ornaments, old posters, pins and other memorabilia of the New York State Fair as well as our new Blue Ribbon recipe book at the new souvenir shop. Located in the Grange Building, open daily from 10:00am to 10:00pm (9:00pm on Labor Day).
