Popular 90’S Pop and R&B Group to Return to The Great New York State Fair

“Don’t go chasin’ waterfalls…” Plan a visit to the Great New York State Fair this summer instead! One of the most popular female music groups of the 1990s, TLC, is performing at The Fair on Pride Day, Friday, August 23. The ladies of TLC – Tionne “T-Boz” and Rozonda “Chilli” Thomas – will take the Suburban Park stage at 8:00 p.m.

Named for the acronym that came from the first letter of the nicknames of each member (Lisa “Left Eye” Lopes died in 2002), TLC formed in 1990 in Atlanta, Georgia. The four-time Grammy award winning group went on to become one of the biggest-selling female groups of all time, producing an extensive musical resume that is supported with a variety of accolades.

To date, TLC has sold 85 million records worldwide, produced ten Top Ten singles in the U.S. (four went to Number 1!), and four multi-platinum selling albums, including the 1994 breakthrough success CrazySexyCool. The album, which Rolling Stone recognized as one of The Best 500 Albums of All Time, produced four top five singles including “Creep,” “Diggin’ on You,” and “Waterfalls.” This summer TLC is celebrating the 30th anniversary of the iconic album, promising to sing through all their hits. The tour is also a celebration of the 90s. TLC encourages fans to come to their shows in attire that represents the decade.

“TLC’sCrazySexyCool album embodies girl power, confidence, and pride. That combination, factored in with the 90s fashion that will be on display, will result in incredible energy the night they’re here at The Fair,” said Fair Director Sean Hennessey. “Fairgoers are still talking about how much fun they had when TLC played here in 2022, and we’ve heard from others who couldn’t attend how much they wish they were there too. We’re so excited to welcome them back!”

When TLC first played at Suburban Park (then called Chevy Park) in 2022, the duo drew 30,000 people – tied for the 20th largest concert crowd in the history of The Fair.

The Fair starts Wednesday, August 21, and runs through Labor Day, Monday, September 2. The Great New York State Fair is the most affordable State Fair in the country – and entry to all concerts is included in the price of admission.  Admission will go on sale this summer.

TLC is one of 39 national recording acts scheduled to perform as part of the Chevrolet Music Series during The Fair. Last week, Kidz Bop’s National Tour was announced for a 1:00 p.m. performance at Chevy Court on Saturday, August 24.

Daily concerts take place at Chevy Court (located near Gate 1) at 1:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m., and Suburban Park (located on the western end of the Fairgrounds, beyond the Midway) will feature an 8:00 p.m. concert every day.

As more concerts are announced, Fair staff will update schedules on the Fair’s website at pages dedicated to Chevy Court and Suburban Park.

Founded in 1841, the Great New York State Fair showcases the best of New York agriculture, provides top-quality entertainment, and is a key piece of the state’s CNY Rising strategy of growing the Central New York economy through tourism.
