Sensory Areas / Sensory Friendly Day

Explore "The New York State Fair Adventures": a story and guide designed to help everyone get familiar with The Fair before their visit.

The Fair provides sensory-friendly programming in three areas: a calming sensory room, an outdoor active sensory area, and a calming sensory shed. These spaces are open to all visitors who may benefit from a quiet environment or engaging activities to support sensory processing and other neurodivergent needs. Additionally, Sensory Friendly Hours will take place on Wednesday, September 2, from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. During these hours, many Midway rides will operate without lights and sounds, and music and public announcements across The Fair will be minimized to support individuals with sensitivities.

  • The Calming Sensory Room is open daily from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. - located inside the Creative Arts Center.
  • The Outdoor Activity Sensory Area is open daily from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. - located outside the Creative Arts Center.
  • The Calming Sensory Shed is open daily from 12:00 to 8:00 p.m. - located by Gate 10.

Service Animals

Trained service animals are welcome at the New York State Fair. They must be a trained service animal that does work or performs a task for a person with a disability. Guests with these animals must retain control of their animals at all times and must keep them on a leash or harness while visiting. Pets are not allowed to be kept in vehicles while attending the Fair.

Tram Service

For the convenience of fairgoers, trams will run continuously on the Fairgrounds, stopping at nine stops from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 p.m.* every day free of charge thanks to sponsorship by Chevrolet. Plus, dedicated ADA shuttles run between the Gray Accessible Parking lot, located outside Gate 10 to Tram Stop #3 at the rear entrance of the Horticulture Building also from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 p.m.* each day.

This year, for the safety of all fairgoers the tram route has changed to avoid highly congested pedestrian areas. Trams will run in a horseshoe shape, turning around at Tram Stop #1 now located by Gate 12 (Center of Progress area) and Tram Stop #9 located near the Haudenosaunee Village. Trams will travel both directions of the perimeter roadway, but will not run between the Haudenosaunee Village.

*Note, on Labor Day - Monday, September 7, the trams stop running at 9:30 p.m.
